The start of 2024 at MacKillop has been full of energy and excitement. We welcome over 200 new students and their families. We also welcome 20 new staff to the College this year, and their expertise and professionalism will ensure we continue to strengthen learning for all students. Our students have all made a great start to the year – there is a settled, engaged vibe around all our classrooms, and plenty of old and new connections with friends. We dedicate several lessons at the beginning of each year practising our routines and learning/revising our expectations – our MacKillop Way. I have been most impressed with the level of engagement in learning and positive interactions that I see around the College every day. Our Primary students are loving the new adventure playgrounds, and our Secondary students are enjoying the panoramic views from our new Winsbury double-storey classroom block.
We have already had many key events. During our Opening Liturgy, we welcomed all new members to our MacKillop family and formally commissioned our Year 6 House Leaders and Secondary Ambassadors. We have held our Year 11 Parent Information and Year 10 Parent Career Induction evenings. Last week, we marked the beginning of Lent with our Ash Wednesday liturgy; we celebrated the outstanding achievements of our Secondary students at our Academic Assembly; and finished the week with our Secondary Swimming Carnival.
