Life within the Careers and Vocational sector is a buzz with work experience preparations, off campus certificate experiences in electrotechnology, construction and school@TAFE, school-based apprenticeships/traineeships sign-ups, CQU and Unity College initiatives in Fitness and Crime and Justice, the aromatic musing of Hospitality and the first whiff of senior assessment swirling around ISMG’s. All of this in a ten-week term!
A significant number of students are getting a taste of the real world through their engagement in industry by experiencing a day a week immersed in the workforce which provides the platform for developing specific employability skills.
A call goes out to families who would like to become involved in the traineeship/apprenticeship program on offer at the College, whether to become a host employer (QLD and Commonwealth subsides provided) or are seeking a placement for their child. (Please note that the student must be 15 years of age to sign up, and if it involves electrotechnology then additional regulations exist – the student must be in Year 11 with passes in Year 10 English, Mathematics and Science.) Please feel free to contact Ms Rebecca Flockhart – rflockhart@cns.catholic.edu.au who will coordinate all enquiries.
A huge thank you goes out to Chris Hanlon of FNQ Windscreens who becomes our first parent to take on a trainee, Hannah of Year 10. FNQ Windscreens provides quality workmanship and service at an extremely affordable price and with over a decade in the industry Chris and his crew can troubleshoot, liaise, advise and fix anything at the right price. As Chris states ‘We at FNQ Windscreens are pleased to have such a great group of people that believe in our service, our workmanship, and our goals. And as always, we can’t wait to give back by providing the best service we can, with the best quality of workmanship that we can provide and mostly at the best price.’ Hannah will be completing a Certificate III in Business during her traineeship and will develop skills in both front and back of office. She will apply these skills to marketing, working with suppliers and customers, developing quotes, and getting a hands-on experience in the total work environment.
Congratulations, also go out to Harrison W and Mason C who have embarked on the first stage of a management pathway with McDonald’ Australia when they signed up through the Berther Group to complete a Certificate III in Retail.
