Congratulations to those students who are taking part in the Cairns Hockey competition this season. We hear you did a wonderful job at your first event on Friday night. If you would like to know more about Hockey and be a part of the team, please contact Brother’s Hockey representative Kathy King on 0413 377 183.
This term (Term 2) we are providing our children with an opportunity to take part in the AusKick program after school on Wednesdays. This program is run by the staff at AFL Cairns. We had Kieran from AFL Cairns talk to the children about the program on last Monday’s Assembly. The children, both boys and girls, were really keen to become involved. For more information about the program, please read the flyer included with the latest newsletter.
In Term 3, we have partnered up with Netball Cairns to allow our children opportunities to be part of the NetFun netball clinic. More information about this will also be sent home towards the end of this term.
Also in Term 3, we will be holding our first Annual Sports Day. This day will be an important part of the history of MacKillop Catholic College and the beginning of many traditions that we will continue to develop as the school grows. Part of these traditions is House Teams. We are in the process of developing these, and in the coming weeks children (and families) will be allocated the House Team of which they will be members.
At the end of the year (Term 4), our children will be taking part in a Swimming Program at Gordonvale Pool. This will enable children opportunities to work with qualified swimming teachers in developing water safety and survival skills as well as swimming stroke techniques. Information about this program will be sent out in Term 3.
As we are a start-up school, we are developing and building up our school resources and this too includes equipment that the children can access during PE lessons as well as play times. Part of our development plan is constructing more soccer goals for the children to use on the grassed areas at play times. If you feel you could help out our staff in constructing these goals (PVC piping), then please be sure to let the school office know. As the saying goes, “Many hands make light work”, and I know the children would appreciate your efforts!
If you have any queries, please don’t hesitate to contact the College office.
