This week, we officially opened and blessed our newest building and facilities – Winsbury. Winsbury offers twelve classrooms and areas for students to gather. Winsbury is named after the third house of Providence that Mary MacKillop opened in the Rocks, Sydney in the late 1800s.
Thank you Hon Curtis Pitt MP, Fr Kerry Crowley and Mr Bill Dixon from the Catholic Education Diocese of Cairns for your ongoing support of the College and assisting us to grow and expand so we can provide a quality educational option to families on the Southside of Cairns.
When celebrating the growth of our school, it is important that we honour and share the narrative and mission of MacKillop Catholic College. We do sacred work here, and aim to enliven the community we serve so it is a place of faith, learning and growth.
Our beautiful College is located on the Gimuy Walaburra land of the Yindini People of Mount Peter, which has been a place of living and learning for thousands of years. MacKillop Catholic College was established to provide a faith-filled, quality and contemporary education for children living in, and moving into this area. Our College has already proudly made its mark here, and is well placed to continue to be the foundation of Catholic Education in the southern corridor of Cairns. We are grateful for the many families of our current 1040 students who have chosen our MacKillop community as their place of learning.
