The new Prep to Year 12 Catholic College at Mount Peter near Edmonton, in the Cairns southern growth corridor has been officially named MacKillop Catholic College, Mount Peter and construction is now underway.
The $5.57M first stage of construction will be completed by early November, in readiness for the start of the 2016 school year.
MacKillop Catholic College will open initially with Years Prep to 3. Applications for enrolment are now being taken.
Once opened, the college will grow to full Prep to Year 12 status in subsequent years to meet the needs of the growing community.
It will be a multi-stream school and when complete, is expected to have enrolments of more than 1,500 students (similar in size to St Andrew’s Catholic College, Redlynch).
The new college has strong public support, indicative of the community’s faith in the value of Catholic schools in Far North Queensland.
Construction of nearly $4 million in support infrastructure including roads and other on-site essential services were completed prior to the College’s start of construction.
The MacKillop Catholic College site is adjacent to residential land development by the Satterley Property Group, on the corner of Mount Peter Rd and Deppeler Rd. The college will service and complement the anticipated high growth of the area and the large number of young families the residential development is expected to attract.
