OUTREACH AT WORK AT MCC:
Reaching out to others who are most vulnerable in our society is to be the hands, and heart of Jesus, today. Outreach is active discipleship, and the College community is inspired by the example of St Mary MacKillop to do as Jesus did, in our time.
Socktober: Last Wednesday, students and staff across the college wore their craziest socks to raise money for the Catholic Mission Socktober campaign. This annual event aims to support the most vulnerable communities around the world most impacted by the lack of medical care during the COVID pandemic. I’m always amazed at the generosity of this community, with just over $530 dollars raised. Well done, MacKillop! Sock it to Poverty!
The Christmas decorations are stacked on the shop shelves, and it won’t be long until the Christmas carols start playing on repeat. With only nine weeks left until Christmas, many of us are thinking of presents, Christmas lunch and lazing poolside. Unfortunately, for many in our local area, Christmas looks very different. There has been a marked increase in requests for financial support and basic needs to all charities across Cairns.
Commencing Week 5, the annual St Vincent de Paul Christmas appeal will be launched to help lessen the impact of poverty on our local families. The drive will be collecting non-perishable food items, toiletries and laundry supplies and small gifts to be donated the Edmonton St Vincent de Paul Chapter for distribution. Keep your eye out for the call for donations in the near future.
