MACKILLOP – inspiring hearts, minds and spirits
How wonderful it has been to welcome back students to our College after an extended break due to COVID. I would like to thank all parents for your flexibility and willingness to respond to the procedural changes and information that has been distributed in the first few weeks. Obviously, we are operating in a dynamic environment where things seem to change on a daily basis. The College will always seek to communicate information with parents as it comes to hand. Your ongoing support and cooperation is appreciated and helps ensure that all students can experience an optimal start to the year.
This year our College grows further offering Prep to Year 9. In 2022 the College has 780 students and we welcome 191 students for the first time this year. A number of new staff have also joined the College and their expertise and professionalism will ensure students are provided with every opportunity to achieve excellence.
In 2022 our College will be focussing on several areas. Specifically, we seek to build on our work in the following areas:
- Catholic Identity
- Writing
- Learning environment
We look forward to seeing these efforts delivered enhanced student outcomes.
Already we are seeing many students involved in our highly successful performance programs and Mr Finlay will continue to lead this area. This year we are pleased to be hosting a College stage production. Further details will be provided throughout this term.
Here at MacKillop, we are also pleased to announce that we have partnered with the Cairns Taipans to launch a junior basketball academy. Trials are currently underway and we look forward to seeing this initiative give rise to some future superstars. Please keep an eye out for information about what’s happening in sport at MacKillop in 2022.
As everyone can see our building works are nearing completion. In two short weeks we plan to fully occupy our newest facility. Our new building will provide first class facilities for music, dance, drama, food technology and hospitality. Additionally, it will also contain a theatre with the capacity to seat 200 students as well as a new canteen for the College. The first-class facilities at MacKillop continue to ensure we provide a quality Catholic education for those who share our values.
Finally, I wish all families the very best for the year ahead. It will certainly be one full of achievement and success. Here at MacKillop, we look forward to inspiring hearts, minds and spirits.
